Thank you for visiting my website. I am currently serving my third term as a state senator representing Eden Prairie and Minnetonka and I am asking for your support for re-election.
My background is in business. I worked for more than 25 years for a food manufacturing and distribution company based in Eden Prairie. My wife and I have lived here since 1983 and our four children all attended Eden Prairie Schools. In 1994, I was elected to the first of three terms on the Eden Prairie school board. I ran because I wanted our education system to perform better for our children. In 2002, I was elected to the state senate, and sought that position because I had learned that local school boards need changes in state law if they are to fulfill their duty to effectively manage education.
In 2010 Republicans were elected to the majority in the state senate for the first time in 38 years. We were facing a deficit of $6 billion in our budget and a struggling economy. Through prudent management, effective reform and eventual compromise with Governor Dayton, we passed a budget that solved that budget deficit without raising tax rates on our fragile economic recovery. We need to continue that work. Our opponents tell us that what we need are higher tax rates, more regulations and more government spending. I believe that the proper course is to continue to encourage economic growth by making sure Minnesota has a competitive business climate, keeping our spending in line with revenue growth and working at effective reforms to assure the money we spend is accomplishing the goals we all expect
As a school board member and a state senator, I have always sought out solutions to the problems we face that are grounded in common sense principles. The challenges we face today require thoughtful public discussion because ultimately, we must come to a consensus on the direction we will take to the future. A campaign of slogans and sound bites is not enough.
We are excited about the opportunity to make our case to the people of Eden Prairie and Minnetonka and look forward to the challenging race ahead of us. Please join our growing team of volunteers or consider making a donation to the campaign. Together we can build a brighter future for Minnesota. Thank you for visiting my website.
